WEEE recycling York

We provide Commercial WEEE recycling in York

To use the York based WEEE Recycling service you need to have an absolute minimum of 10 computer sized items. Anything less than this isn’t viable for us to collect as our vehicles are large. E.G. Our smallest vehicle can collect 160 Desktop PCs. A computer sized item is something like – a server, a pc, an LCD monitor, a CRT monitor, a UPS, an inkjet printer, a laser printer, a fax machine, a server cabinet etc. Things like mice, keyboard, cables / connectors etc aren’t classed as items due to their size but we can collect them free of charge.

So what areas does the WEEE Recycling in York service cover? Fulford, Heslington, Upper Poppleton, Askham, York City centre, Chifton Moor, Tadcaster, Dunnington, York University area, Stockton on the forest, Copmanthorpe, Caxby, Stamford Bridge etc.

Wondering what items are classified as hazardous and what are classed as non hazardous:

Hazardous items in the WEEE Recycling service –

  • LCD Monitors – These are classed as hazardous due to the backlight containing a small amount of mercury. The actual liquid crystals aren’t hazardous themselves.
  • Laptops – again these are hazardous due to the backlight.
  • Phones – still hazardous as they have mercury in the backlight.
  • Uninterruptable Power Supplies and Batteries – these are all hazardous as they have lead in them.

Non-hazardous items in the WEEE Recycling service –

  • Computer base units, switches, cables, servers, metal cabinets, cardboard, mice/keyboards.
  • However, really old tower units were classed as hazardous.

What documentation is provided:

Waste Transfer note, Hazardous Waste transfer note, Asset report (this includes a full breakdown of what we have collected, including serial numbers, models/makes and any unique asset tags – these can be customised to suite the customer), data destruction certificate (this can take up to 2 weeks to be emailed over as hard drives take quite a while to data wipe).
